The Ultimate Christmas Reset For a Cozy, Calm Home

Every December, I feel the excitement building… twinkle lights, warm food, cozy magical nights.
But along with the joy comes that quiet undercurrent of overwhelm. Clutter piling up, messy counters, and endless lists that stretch the season thin.

That’s why, before Christmas week, I always do what I call my Christmas Reset.
It’s a simple rhythm that clears the space, grounds my home, and brings back that cozy, peaceful feeling before the holiday rush begins.

Think of it as a gift you give yourself, the peace of knowing your home is ready to hold the season.

Why Do a Christmas Reset?

  • Calm instead of chaos: You’ll actually enjoy your traditions more.
  • More space: Clear the clutter before decorations and gifts arrive.
  • Stress-free hosting: Even if it’s just family, your home feels welcoming.
  • Peace of mind: A clean kitchen and cozy corners make everything feel lighter.

I treat this reset the same way I do my weekly rhythms, like my Sunday Reset Routine PDF. A routine like this is all about creating just enough order to feel calm and truly be able to enjoy your space

The Ultimate Christmas Reset Checklist

Step 1: Clear the Surfaces (15 minutes)

Before I add a single garland or candle, I completely clear every surface: counters, coffee tables, ledges and nightstands.
This instantly opens up visual space and makes Christmas décor shine instead of competing with clutter.

I keep my favorite large woven catch-all basket nearby for quick toss-in items and move them to their proper places later. It also doubles as the best blanket basket by my tree!

Step 2: Quick Whole-House Tidy (20 minutes)

I grab a laundry basket and do a fast sweep through every room: toys, socks, mail, random clutter, everything goes in.
It doesn’t have to be perfect; just gather and clear. Once the visual noise is gone, the whole home feels instantly calmer.

For an easier pickup system, I love using this three-compartment hamper (I actually keep one at the bottom of my stairs daily!) One section for laundry, one for toys, one for “return to another room.” It makes the reset flow so much faster and I’ve been obsessed with it since the day I got it.

Step 3: Deep-Clean the Kitchen Hot Spots (20 minutes)

The kitchen is the heart of Christmas, so this step grounds the whole reset.
I wipe down counters, scrub the sink until it sparkles, and run or empty the dishwasher. If I have time, I will organize a cupboard that gets used a lot, like my tupperware container drawer/shelf.

Step 4: Cozy Living Room Reset (15 minutes)

Fluff pillows, fold blankets, vacuum or shake out rugs.
Then add small touches that bring instant warmth: my favorite star string lights, a candle, or a cozy Christmas themed or warm throw over the sofa. This one step turns the space from “messy family room” to “holiday sanctuary.”

For a finishing touch, I spray all my house linens, carpets, rugs, curtains, couch etc. with my favorite natural linen spray with a fresh snow winter scent, it makes it feel like part of the holiday prep.

Step 5: Laundry + Linens (15 minutes)

Fresh linens make a bigger difference than most people realize.
I catch up on laundry using my 3-compartment laundry hamper to sort everything quickly.
Then I switch out towels, smooth bedspreads, and fold a soft blanket at the end of each bed.

Even if no guests are coming, it makes the home feel loved and tended to.

Step 6: Holiday Touches (15 minutes)

Now for the best part, the cozy, joyful finishing touches:

These sensory layers are what make the home feel like Christmas, without buying a thing.

Optional Extras

  • Declutter a Drawer or Closet: If I have the energy, I’ll pick one small area to clear before new gifts come in.
  • Prep a Cozy Treat: Simmer apple cider mix (this one is my all time fav) on the stove or bake simple cookies. It makes the whole reset feel like part of the holiday magic.

🎁 My Rhythm for Calm Holidays

This reset is all about gently moving through these steps so your home feels ready and peaceful.
When the house is calmer, you are calmer, and that’s what lets you actually enjoy the season.

This same rhythm is what I follow all year long with my Sunday Reset Routine PDF:
simple steps → calmer home → calmer mind.

Christmas Is All in the Feeling

Christmas doesn’t have to feel overwhelming.
With this gentle reset, you can give yourself the gift of a home that feels calm, cozy, and ready to hold the season.

Light a candle. Put on your favorite playlist.
Let the reset become part of the magic, because the best holiday memories aren’t about perfection… they’re about presence.

If you want more cozy rhythms that ground you all year, grab my Sunday Reset Routine PDF.
It’s the system that keeps my home peaceful and organized, even during the busiest seasons.

With love,
